There’s so much more to Viber than sending a plain text message!!

This article will guide you through how to use all of Viber’s chat features, including disappearing messages, hidden chats, and broadcast lists.

Understand your chat screen

Info screen

How to open the info screenPhone

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Select a chat
  4. Tap the name of the chat at the top of the screen or Tap Info  (Android)
  5. Tap Chat info

Desktop

  1. Open Viber on your Desktop
  2. Select a chat
  3. Click on Info 

Info screen optionsMedia, Links and Files

Photos

  • A collection of all the photos and videos sent in the chat.

Videos

  • To see when a photo/video was sent, right-click on the photo/video and click Show in conversation (available only on Desktop).

GIFs

  • A collection of all the GIFs sent in the chat.

Links

  • A collection of all the links sent in the chat.

Files

  • A collection of all the files sent in the chat.

Add contact to a group

  • Add the contact to one of the groups you belong to

Groups in common

  • View what groups you both belong to

Phone number

  • View contact’s phone number, copy their number, make a Viber Out call, make a cellular call 

Trust this contact

  • Instructions for testing your end-to-end encryption connection with this contact

Mute chat

  • You will not receive notifications for any messages sent in the chat.

Background image

  • Set a background image for this specific chat.
  • Choose either from Viber’s gallery, your own photos, or take a photo with the camera (Phone only).
  • The new background will only be visible to you if you change it in a 1on1 or group chat.

Delete this chat

  • All chat content will be deleted (for you only).
  • The chat will be deleted from your chat list until you send a message to each other again.

Voice and video call

  • Make a voice or video call to the contact(s).

Info screen options available only in 1on1 chatsShare contact 

  • Share the phone number of this contact with someone else on Viber.

Add to groups

  • Add the contact to a group of which you’re a participant.

Groups in common

  • See the groups that both you and the contact are participants of.

Phone Number

  • Tap to have the option to:
    • Copy the number onto your clipboard.
    • Call using Viber Out.
    • Make a Cellular call through your service provider.

Block this contact

  • Phone only option.
  • The contact will be added to your block list.
  • You will not receive any messages they send.
  • They will not be able to call you.
  • They will not be notified that you blocked them.

Add contact

  • Phone only option.
  • Save the contact to your contact list on your phone.

Participants

  • Desktop only option.
  • Click Add to create a group chat with other contacts.

Info screen options available only on PhonesClear chat content

  • All chat content will be deleted (for you only).

Hide this chat

  • Hide the chat from your chat list.
  • Access the chat using a PIN (other options available on iOS).

Attach location always

  • A map pinpointing your location will always be attached to your messages.
  • Tap on the Location icon  in the sent message to open the map.

Combine notifications (Android only)

  • Multiple messages will be collated into a single notification.

Info screen options available only on DesktopFavorite chat 

  • Add chat to your favorites list.

Automatic translation

  • Automatically translate all messages sent in the chat. (This feature may not be available in your country.)

Message options

General message optionsClick/long tap on a message to see the following options:

Reply

  • The message you are replying to will be shown above your new message.
  • Tap on the message above the reply to see the original message.

Copy

  • The message will be copied to your clipboard.

Forward

  • Forward the message to other contact(s), group(s), or Community(s).
  • After selecting who you want to forward the message to, tap/click Send.

Edit

  • Edit your message after it has been sent.

Select

  • Desktop only option.
  • Select more than one message to delete, copy, or forward.

Translate

  • Translate the message into another language (translation will only be visible to you).

Pin

  • Pin the message to the top of the chat list.

Delete

  • Delete for myself: the message will no longer appear in your chat.
  • Delete for myself and (the person you're speaking with/all participants): the message will be deleted from everyone’s chat (can only be used for messages you sent).

Media message optionsMedia messages such as files, photos, and links, may have extra options:

Check for spam

  • Check to see if a link/phone number/email address is suspected of belonging to a spammer.

Report

  • Report a message that you believe goes against Viber’s Terms of Use.
  • Only available in Communities.

Message options only available on PhonesGet it

  • Get the sticker pack that the sticker you are tapping on belongs to.

Message options only available on DesktopDownload

  • Download the media item to your computer.

Open in external browser

  • See the media item through your browser.

Show in folder

  • See where the media item was downloaded to.

Save as

  • Save the media item to a destination of your choice.

Chat basics

Chat iconsLook out for the following icons (next to the chat name) to identify chats:

 Bot: this chat is with a bot. Verified: this chat is with a verified Community, user, or business.Format textMake your text stand out with formatting tools (italic, bold, strikethrough, monospace).

Android

  1. Long tap a word or phrase a word or phrase in your message
  2. Tap on More 
  3. Select one or more formatting options: Bold, Italic, Strikethrough and Monospace
  4. Tap Send undefined
    1. Tap on the Text field to continue writing

iOS

  1. Highlight a word or phrase in your message
  2. Tap B I U
  3. Select one or more formatting options
  4. Tap Send 
    1. Tap on the Text field to continue writing

Desktop

  1. Highlight a word or phrase in your message
  2. Select one or more formatting options
  3. Hit Enter to send
    1. Click on the Text field to continue writing

You can also format text by adding special characters directly to the text:

Italic: _text_Bold: *text*Strikethrough: ~text~Monospace : ```text```Message statusA message’s delivery status is displayed next to the time it was sent:

 - Your message is being sent.- Your message has been sent. - Your message has been received. - Your message has been seen by the other contact(s) (unless their ‘Send seen status’ is switched off).

When a message is being composed, you will see the following:

Draft: you have started typing a message but haven’t sent it yet.Typing…: another contact is typing a message.Edit messagesAny message you send can be edited, even if the other contact(s) has already seen it.

Phone: long tap on the message and tap Edit.Desktop: right-click on the message and click Edit.

The message will open, and you will be able to edit it. After you Send the message, “Edited” will appear under your message to notify the participants of the conversation that changes have been made.Delete messagesAny message you send can be deleted, even if the other contact(s) has already seen it.

Android

  1. Long tap on the message 
  2. Tap Delete 
  3. Tap Delete for myself or Delete for everyone 

iOS

  1. Long tap on the message and tap Delete
  2. Tap on the checkbox  beside the message(s) you want to delete.  When selected they will have a checkmark inside. 
  3. Tap on Trash  in the bottom corner
  4. Tap on Delete 

Desktop: right-click on the message and click Delete.

You will have the option to:

  • Delete for myself: the message will no longer appear in your chat.
  • Delete for myself and (person you're speaking with/all participants): the message will be deleted from everyone’s chat (can only be used on messages you sent).

Translate a messageTranslate a message into a language that you understand (translation options can be found in Settings):

Phone: long tap on the message and tap Translate.Desktop: right-click on the message and click Translate.

The translated message will appear under the original message.

To automatically translate all messages sent in a chat on your desktop*:

  1. Open Viber on your Desktop
  2. Select the chat that you want automatically translated
  3. Click on Info 
  4. Click on Automatic translation
  5. Click Continue

To turn off automatic translation, follow Steps 1-4 (clicking on Automatic translation will switch off the translations).

To change the translation language, click on Settings  next to Automatic translation (in Step 4) and select a language from the dropdown menu under Message translations.

*This feature may not be available in your country.

IMPORTANTTranslations are done by 3rd parties. When a message is sent for translation, it is sent unencrypted to the translation service's servers.‘React’ to a messageQuickly respond to a message with a reaction.

Tap/click on the heart  next to a message to show that you like it, or long tap the heart on your phone and select the reaction you want to express, including laughter  shock  sadness  or anger . To react on your desktop, hover your cursor over the heart and select the reaction you want to convey.

NotesReactions aren’t available if you have Disappearing messages switched on or haven’t updated to the latest version of Viber. Mark chat as unreadRemind yourself that you need to respond to a message by marking the chat as “unread.”

Chats with unread messages have an icon  and will remain at the top you chat list if your settings* are configured in that way.

Phone

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Long tap (Android) or swipe right (iOS) on the chat you want to mark as unread
  4. Tap Mark as unread

Desktop

  1. Open Viber on your Desktop
  2. Right-click on the chat you want to mark as unread
  3. Click Mark as unread

*To keep unread messages at the top of your chat list on Desktop, click on the down arrow next to the Chats icon  and select Unread messages on top. To change back to the original settings, click Recent messages on top.Mute a chatMute a chat to stop receiving message notifications (you will still see New Message alerts next to the chat in the chat list).

Phone (Android only)*

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Long tap on the chat that you want to mute
  4. Tap Mute chat
  5. Select for how long you want to mute the chat

*Mute options on iOS available only for groups and Communities.

Desktop

  1. Open Viber on your Desktop
  2. Right-click on the chat you want to mute
  3. Click on Mute
  4. Select how long you want to mute the chat for
  5. Click OK

You can choose to mute a chat for:

  • 1 hour
  • 8 hours
  • 24 hours
  • Always

The chat will automatically be unmuted when the time frame you selected ends.

To manually unmute a chat, follow the same steps, clicking/tapping Unmute instead of ‘mute’ at the end.Preview messages*Available only on Desktop.

You’ll automatically see a short preview of your messages in the chat list. To see the whole message without opening the chat, hover your mouse over the message in the chat list.Favorite a chat*Available only on Desktop.

Add a chat to your Favorites list for quick access.

  1. Open Viber on your Desktop
  2. Right-click on a chat you want to favorite
    1. Can’t find the chat? Search for it by clicking the Plus 
  3. Click Add to favorite chats

   a. You can have a maximum of 7 favorite chats

The chat will be pinned to your favorites list above your regular chat list.

To take a chat off your favorites list, follow the same steps, clicking Remove from favorite chats in Step 3.

To hide the favorites list, click on the Arrow  above the Plus .

NotesFavorite chats will not appear as pinned chats on your phone, and vice versa.Pin a chat*Available only on a Phone.

A pinned chat will always stay at the top of your chats list, even when you get new messages from other contacts.

To pin a chat to the top of your chat list:

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Long tap (Android) or swipe left (iOS) on the chat you want to pin
  4. Select Pin 

To unpin a chat, follow the same steps, tapping Unpin in Step 4.

NotesPinned chats will not appear in your favorites list on Desktop, and vice versa.Pin a messageA pinned message will always stay at the top of your 1on1, group, or Community* chat screen. Tapping/clicking on the message will bring you directly to the message in your chat.

*Only admins and superadmins can pin a message in a Community.

To pin a message in your chat:

  1. Open Viber on your Phone/Desktop
    1. Tap on Chats (Phone)
  2. Select the chat in which you would like to pin a message
  3. Long tap/right-click on a message
  4. Select Pin

NotesYou can only have one pinned message at a time. Pinning a new message will unpin the previous message.

Search

Search chatsSearch through your messages and contacts to find the information you need.

Phone

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Tap on Search  (Android) or swipe down to reveal the Search bar  (iOS)
  4. Type in a name or phrase

Desktop

  1. Open Viber on your Desktop
  2. Click on the Search  field
  3. Type in a name or phrase

Your search results will be divided into two tabs:

Chats: include contacts, existing chats, Communities, and bots that match the name or phrase you searched for.Messages: include chats that contain the phrase you searched for.Search the web*Available only on Desktop.

Search the web directly from Viber!

  1. In your chat, highlight the words you want to look-up
  2. Right-click on the highlighted text
  3. Click Search the web for

Your browser will open with the search results.

Voice and video messages

Play voice and video messagesTo play a voice* or video message, press the Play  button, which sits on top of the message.

Sound: if you listen to a voice message on your phone, the sound will come out of your speakers/headphones unless you bring the phone up to your ear. Sound from video messages will always come from the speakers/headphones.

Skip/rewind: tap/click on the soundwave to play the voice message from where you selected.

Pause: tap/click on Pause  to pause the voice message.

Change speed: Once the message starts playing you will have the option to change the playback speed on your phone. Choose from x1, x1.5, and x2 by tapping on the speed button  next to the message.Send voice messagesSend a voice message to your contacts from your Phone or Desktop.

Phone

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Select the chat you want to send a voice message in
  4. Tap and hold the Microphone 
    1. If you see the Video  button instead, swipe left or right on it to switch to Voice message mode
  5. Release the button to Send

   a. Slide the button to Cancel

To record a message hands-free:

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Select the chat you want to send a voice message in
  4. Tap and swipe the Microphone  button up to lock the screen
    1. If you see the Video  button instead, swipe left or right on it to switch to Voice message mode
  5. Tap Send* 

   a. Tap Cancel to delete the recording

*To preview the message before sending it, tap Stop  after Step 4. You will see the following options:

 - Delete the recording.- Play the recording.- Send the recording.

Desktop

Make sure the microphone is set up on your computer or that you’re wearing headphones.

  1. Open Viber on your Desktop
  2. Select the chat you want to send a voice message in
  3. Click on the Microphone 
  4. Click the Tick  to send the message
    1. To Cancel, click the Cross 

Send video messages*Available only on a Phone.

Record a video message on your phone and send it to your contacts.

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Select the chat you want to send a video message in
  4. Tap and hold the Video  button
    1. If you see a Microphone  instead, swipe left or right on it to switch to Video mode
    2. The camera will automatically be in selfie mode
    3. A video message can be up to 20 seconds long
  5. Release the button to Send

   a. You will not be able to preview your message   b. Slide the button to Cancel

Media messages

Take a photo or video

Instantly send a photo or video*Not available on Desktop.

You can take a photo/video directly from your chat screen and select the contacts you want to send it to afterward.

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Tap on the Camera  in the top corner
  4. Select GIF, Photo, or Video
  5. Use the instructions in the following sections to create the photo or video
    • Select a Viber Lens to enhance your photos and videos
  6. Add a description (optional) and tap Send 
  7. Select the contacts you want to send the message 
  8. Tap Send (Android) or  Done  (iOS)

Take a photo and send*Available only on a Phone.

Take a photo directly on Viber, and send it to your contacts.

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Select the chat you want to send a photo in
  4. Tap on the Camera 
  5. Tap on Capture to take a photo
    1. Tap on the Selfie  icon first to take a photo of yourself
    2. Use pinch gestures to zoom in and out

6.  To attach photos from your phone’s gallery, tap on Gallery  and then select the photo(s)/video(s) (iOS only)7. Add a description to the photo, or tap Send  without one  a. To cancel, tap on the Cross  Take a video and send*Not available on Desktop.

Use Viber's camera to record and send a video.

Take a video

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Select the chat you want to send a video in
  4. Tap on the Camera 
  5. Tap Video
  6. Tap Capture  to start recording
    1. Tap on the Selfie  icon first to record yourself
    2. Use pinch gestures to zoom in and out
  7. Tap on Capture  to stop recording

  a. To trim the video, tap and drag either endpoint of the clip towards the other end8. To save a video to your phone, tap on Savebefore sending9. To send videos from your phone’s gallery with the video, tap on Galleryand then select the photo(s)/video(s) (iOS only)10.  Add a description to the video, or tap Send  without one  a. To cancel, tap on the Cross  Use Viber lenses (powered by Snapchat)*Not available on Desktop.

Viber’s lenses allow you to create fun photos, videos, and GIFs.

To use a lens:

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats* 
  3. Select the chat you want to send a photo, video, or GIF in using a lens
  4. Tap on the Camera 
  5. To scroll through Viber Lenses  swipe right and tap on the lens of your choice in the lenses carousel 
  6. Select GIF, Photo, or Video
  7. Scroll across the different lenses
  8. Find a lens you like and focus the camera on your face or tap on Reverse  to focus on the person in front of you 
  9. Tap the selected lens icon again to capture
    • To stop a video/GIF recording tap the red Record  button
  10. Review the section below to learn how to edit photos and videos
  11. Add a description (optional) and tap Send to send the message to your contact(s)
    • To download your creation, tap Save 

*For quick access to Viber Lenses, tap on the Camera at the top of the Chats screen. You’ll be able to select to whom you want to send your creation after you finish making it.

**If you have an Android and this is the first time you’re using Viber Lenses you may be prompted to download the feature. For more information, refer to our article on Dynamic features.

Notes

  • For general instructions on how to take a photo or video, read the previous sections   
  • You can use Viber lenses with both the front (selfie mode) and rear-facing camera 
  • Viber lenses work best in portrait mode
  • Some lenses will require you to perform an action for the best effect i.e. open your mouth, tap on your face, move the phone further away from your face, make changes using the color selector, etc
  • Several of the lenses have sound effects

Timer and flashSet a timer

After Step 4 (photo) or Step 5 (video):

  1. Tap on the Timer 
    1. Tap once to set the timer to 3 seconds
    2. Tap again to set the timer to 6 seconds
    3. Tap again to turn the timer OFF
  2. The timer will start when you tap Capture 

Turn on flash

After Step 4 (photo) or Step 5 (video) tap on Flash. Continue tapping to change the function:

 - Flash is turned OFF. - Flash is turned ON. - Auto mode; flash will only turn on in low light.

Editing tools

Important informationEditing tools will be displayed after you take a photo/video.

To save the photo/video before you make changes, tap Save.  To attach photos/videos from your gallery to send with your photo/video, tap on Gallery and then select the photo(s)/video(s) (iOS only)Crop and rotate

  1. Tap Crop 
  2. Choose any of the following options
    • Zoom: Use pinch gestures to zoom in and out
    • Crop: Tap and drag the corners of the photo towards the center
    • Rotate: Tap Rotate to turn the photo 90, 180, or 270 degrees
  3. Tap Done

Tap and drag the photo to reposition the selected area after you zoom or crop.

Tap Reset to undo ALL your edits and start again.Doodle

  1. Tap Doodle 
  2. Tap on the color that you want to draw with
  3. Draw!

Stickers

  1. Tap Stickers 
  2. Select a sticker from your collection

Tap and drag the sticker to reposition it and use pinch gestures to make it smaller and larger.Text

  1. Tap Text 
  2. Tap on the color that you want to write in
    • You can also change the Font  and Formatting  (iOS only)
  3. Write your message

Tap the text to edit, tap and drag to reposition it, and use pinch gestures to make the text smaller or larger.Undo editingTo undo editing, tap Undo .To redo editing, tap Redo  (iOS only).Video speedTap on the Double arrow  to change the playing speed* of the video.

*Audio is only available on videos playing at the original speed.

Speed options include:

  • 1/2x
  • 2x
  • 4x

Video directionTap on the Single arrow to play the video in reverse*.

Tap again to play the video and then reverse it.

*Audio is not available on videos playing in reverse.

Photos and videos from the gallery

Send a photo from my gallerySend a photo from your gallery to your contacts.

All photos will be sent according to the photo quality settings that you have. To send a photo in its original size, follow the instructions under Desktop.

Phone

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Select the chat you want to send a photo in
  4. Tap on Gallery 
  5. Select 1 or more photos
    1. To unselect, tap on the photo again
    2. To add a description, tap on the Pen 
  6. Tap Send 

Desktop

Drag and drop a video from a folder directly into your chat. Before you drop you will be given an option for the quality/size of the photo you want to send:

Original size: the photo will be sent in its original size.Instant delivery: the photo will be sent according to your photo quality settings.Send a video from my gallerySend a video from your gallery to your contacts.

Phone

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Select the chat you want to send a photo in
  4. Tap on Gallery 
  5. Select 1 or more videos
    1. To unselect, tap on the photo again
    2. To add a description, tap on the Pen 
    3. To trim the video, hold and drag either endpoint of the clip towards the other end
  6. Tap Send 

Desktop

Drag and drop a video from a folder directly into your chat.

Stickers, GIFs, and more!

Send stickersExpress yourself with stickers!

  1. Open Viber
    1. Tap on Chats  (Phone)
  2. Select the chat where you want to send a sticker
  3. Tap/click on Stickers 
  4. Choose a Sticker

   a. From the pack that first opens   b. From another sticker pack (available packs are displayed underneath the open sticker pack)   c. By typing the expression that you want to convey (using keywords such as “hi” or “birthday”)

You can also create a sticker!

Some stickers are animated. To see the animation again, tap/click on the sticker.Send GIFsGIFs are a great way to enhance your chats and make them come alive.

  1. Open Viber
    1. Tap on Chats  (Phone)
  2. Select the chat where you want to send a GIF
  3. Tap/click on Chat extensions 
  4. Select Tenor
  5. Choose a GIF

   a. From the GIFs that first open   b. By typing the expression that you want to convey (using keywords such as “excited” or “lunch”)

You can also create a GIF!

Some GIFs are animated. To see the animation again or to stop it from playing, tap/click on the GIF.Send files*Only available on Desktop.

Share files in your chats.

  1. Open Viber on your Desktop
  2. Select the chat you want to send a file in
  3. Tap on File share (bottom corner of the chat screen)
  4. Double click on the file you want to send

You can also drag and drop files from your Desktop into the chat.Share locationLet the person you’re speaking with know where you are by sharing your location.

  1. Open Viber on your Phone (available only on Android)
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Select the chat you want to share your location in
  4. Tap More (bottom corner)
  5. Tap Location 
  6. Tap on the map to view it in full screen
  7. Tap and drag the map to place the location you’re sharing under the location pin 
  8. Tap Share this location

Share contactEasily share the phone number of a contact in any of your chats.

Phone

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Select the chat you would like to share a contact with
  3. Tap More  (bottom corner)
  4. Tap Share contact 
  5. Select the contact

Desktop

  1. Open Viber on your Desktop
  2. Select the chat you would like to share a contact with
  3. Click and drag a contact from your chat list into the chat screen

OR

  1. Open Viber on your Desktop
  2. Select the contact whose details you would like to share
  3. Click on Info 
  4. Click on Share contact 
  5. Select the chat you would like to share a contact with
  6. Click Share

Once a contact has been shared in a chat, tap/click on the contact card to start a 1on1 chat with the person.Chat extensionsMake your conversations interactive with chat extensions*. Play games, share YouTube videos, and more.

*Chat extension availability is dependent on your region and device (phone, tablet, desktop).

  1. Open Viber
    1. Tap on Chats  (Phone)
  2. Select the chat you want to send a chat extension in
  3. Tap on Chat extensions 

Disappearing Messages

Enable disappearing messagesSend a message that will automatically be deleted at a predetermined time.

To enable disappearing messages for one-on-one and group chats:

  1. Open Viber on your Phone or Desktop
    • Tap on Chats  (phone)
  2. Select the chat in which you want to send disappearing messages 
    • Tap/click on the Timer 
  3. Select how long you would like your messages* to stay visible
    • 10 seconds
    • 1 minute
    • 1 hour
    • 1 day
  4. Enter your message and tap/click Send

*The timer will be set for all participants in the chat.

Anyone in the chat can switch off disappearing messages by following the same steps and selecting OFF in the last step.

To enable disappearing messages by default for all one-on-one chats: 1.  Open Viber on your Phone*2. Tap on More  (Android)  (iOS)3. Tap on Settings 4. Tap on Privacy5. Tap Disappearing messages by default6. Select how long you would like your messages** to stay visible:

Disappearing messages basics

  • The timer starts when the disappearing message is opened (by each chat participant)
  • Changes to timer settings will be displayed in your chat.
  • You can’t reply to, copy, or forward disappearing messages
  • When a chat is in disappearing messages mode, you will only see Message written in the notification preview and not the contents of the message

Sending media

  • Photos and videos won’t be saved to your Viber media gallery; however, they may be saved to the phone’s gallery
  • Videos can only be viewed for the duration of the timer (unless the video is longer)
    • If a video is 30 seconds and your timer is set to 10 seconds, you will only be able to view the video once from the time you open the message
    • If a video is 30 seconds and your timer is set to 1 hour, you will be able to view the video as many times as you like for 1 hour from the time you open the message
  • GIFs can’t be sent in disappearing messages

Hidden chats

Important informationKeep your conversations extra private using Hidden chats.

Hidden chats will not appear in your regular chat list and can only be accessed with a PIN.

IMPORTANT

  • Hiding a chat will permanently clear its chat history from Viber on Desktop.
  • Media (photos, videos, and voice/video messages) won't be automatically downloaded unless you tap and open/view it. This means that any media which you do not open will be unavailable after 14 days.

Good to know

  • Only one PIN is needed for all hidden chats.
  • You cannot have both a regular and a hidden chat with the same contact.
    • Consider using disappearing messages if you want to send private messages and also keep the chat in your regular chat list.
  • Hiding the chat on your phone will NOT hide the chat on anyone else’s phone.
  • You will see a “new message” notification when you receive a message in a hidden chat. To view the message you will need to open the hidden chat.
  • Fast reply and preview are not available for hidden chats; tapping on a new message notification will take you to your chat list (where the hidden chat WON’T be listed).

Hide a chat

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Long tap (Android) or long tap and swipe left (iOS) on a chat you want to hide
    1. Community chats can’t be hidden
  4. Tap Hide chat
  5. Enter your PIN*

*If this is your first time using hidden chats you will be prompted to create a 4 digit PIN. You can also set up Face ID or Touch ID if you’re using an iPhone.Quick hide (group chats only)

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Long tap (Android) or swipe left (iOS) on the chat you want to hide
  4. Tap Hide
  5. Enter your PIN*

*If this is your first time using hidden chats you will be prompted to create a 4 digit PIN. You can also set up Face ID or Touch ID if you’re using an iPhone.Find a hidden chatThere are several ways to find hidden chats (some may not be available on your phone):

  • If you are using a PIN, type the PIN into the Search bar  to reveal all hidden chats.
  • Type the name of the contact/group into the Search bar .
  • Tap on Compose (Android) or  (iOS) and type in the name of the hidden chat.

Unhide a hidden chat

  1. Find and open the hidden chat
  2. Tap Info  (Android) or the name of the chat (iOS) at the top of the screen
  3. Tap Chat info
  4. Tap Unhide this chat
  5. Enter your PIN

Reset the PINIf you forget your PIN, you will need to reset it.

IMPORTANT: for your privacy, resetting a PIN will permanently clear the chat histories of all your hidden chats.

To reset your PIN:

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap More  (Android)  (iOS)
  3. Tap Settings 
  4. Tap Privacy 
  5. Tap on Hidden chats
  6. Tap on Reset PIN 
  7. Tap Yes
  8. Follow the steps for Hide a PIN to reset

IMPORTANT

If you reset your PIN, all Hidden Chats including their messages and media will be deleted.Hidden chats on Desktop/TabletHidden chats are not available on Desktops or Tablets, therefore you won’t be notified of any messages sent in the chat.

Hiding a chat will also permanently clear its chat history on your Desktop/Tablet.

Broadcast lists

Important information*Only available on a Phone.

A broadcast list allows you to send the same message to multiple contacts without creating a group or sending the message to each chat individually.

Up to 50 contacts will receive a message directly into your 1on1 chat with them and will be able to respond to the message within the chat.

Your contacts will not be notified that the message was sent in bulk or that they are part of a broadcast list.

IMPORTANTFor a contact to receive a message sent via a broadcast list, YOU must be saved as a contact on THEIR contact list.Create a broadcast list

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Tap Compose  (Android) or (iOS)
  4. Tap on Broadcast list 
  5. Select the contacts you want to send a message
  6. Tap Done to create a broadcast list

You can now create and send a message to all members of your list.Create a name for a broadcast list

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Select a group
  4. Tap Info  (Android) or “Broadcast list” (iOS) at the top of the screen
    1. Android: tap on Chat info
  5. Tap on the Pen (top corner)
  6. Tap on the space under the group icon
  7. Enter a name
  8. Tap Done

Add more contacts to a broadcast list

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Select a broadcast list
  4. Tap Add participants 
  5. Select the contact(s) you want to add to the broadcast list
  6. Tap Done (top corner)

Delete a broadcast list

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats 
  3. Select a broadcast list
  4. Tap Info  (Android) or the name of the list (iOS) at the top of the screen
    1. Android: tap on Chat info
  5. Tap Delete broadcast list

You need either earphones or to put the phone close to your ear to hear and be heard. Tap to switch the speaker ON.
